Background and static link
- ONDC is an open digital network for commerce. DigiDukaan lets kirana shop owners search and order from many brands, distributors and wholesalers through one interface.
- The initiative is designed to strengthen existing distribution relationships and not to replace them.
- Retailers can later reach shared logistics, formal credit and other services on the same digital base.
- Retailer logs in to DigiDukaan
- Compares brands and prices
- Orders from distributor
- Shared logistics and credit follow
Why does it matter for the exam?
The release links digital procurement with working capital. Retailers who depend on informal distributor credit may gain access to formal credit through records of digital orders. The Minister described DigiDukaan as an example of open digital infrastructure that the world can learn from.
What is the Uttar Pradesh link?
The release names Hyderabad, Jaipur and Mumbai as the cities served and gives no figure for Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh has a large base of small neighbourhood shops, so digital procurement and shared logistics are relevant to the state in general terms. Link the topic to GS-III economy and treat any state example as awaited until an official source gives it.
Common confusions
- ONDC is not an e-commerce company. It is an open network that connects buyers, sellers and service providers.
- DigiDukaan serves kirana shops as buyers. It does not replace distributors.
